The section of the N1 motorway between Effretikon and Ohringen connects the cities of Winterthur and Zurich and is one of the busiest routes in the Zurich metropolitan area. The Hammermuehle viaduct, built in 1970, spans this section and carries six lanes of motorway traffic. The viaduct’s old bearings were showing their age and needed to be replaced. The biggest challenge in this project was not the product itself, but the technical challenge of lifting the viaduct several times to replace the bridge bearings. This process had to be carried out synchronously and under constant monitoring. In addition, an extremely short time window had to be adhered to in which the construction work had to be carried out. Thanks to the highly qualified team of assembly technicians and close communication with us and other partners, the renovation work was successfully completed on schedule. We are particularly proud that the use of our product MM1018 – The Liquid-Shim® also contributed to the successful renovation of the bridge bearings.
